Size Matters as Shippensburg Dominates the Back Boards

Kia Whitley Duncan came off the bench to spark Cheyney (3-16:3-11) with 17 points as the Lady Wolves fell 65-59 to Shippensburg (13-7:9-5).
The game was won on the back boards as the Red Raiders dominated on the boards owning a 50-24. 

Shippensburg led the entire first half.  The Red Raider were winning 24-23 with just over six minutes to play in the half when they ran off nine straight points to take a 33-23 lead.  However, the Lady Wolves scored the final eight points of the half (six by Whitley-Duncan) to cut the deficit tow two at the break. 

The Lady Wolves took their first lead of the afternoon after they scored six straight points to turn a three point deficit into a three point advantage with just under 11 minutes to play.  With the game tied at 57 and 4:06 showing on the clock the Raiders Logan Snyder and Stephanie Knauer made back to back lay-ups to give Shippensburg a four point advantage.  Whitley Duncan drained a pair of free throws to cut the lead in half but Lauren Gold sealed the victory with the final four points of the game in the final 32 seconds. 

The Red Raiders starting five accounted for all but three points on the afternoon.  Each of the five netted double figures.  Snyder led the way with 17 points while Knauer and Morgan Griffith each recorded a double double. 

Cheyney is back in action on Wednesday night as they visit Bloomsburg.
