The Cheyney Lady Wolves opened the new year snapping an eight game skid with a 60-53 victory over Clarion (1-11/0-7).  Kyra Hines-Allen paced Cheyney (2-10/2-5) with 23 points and 12 rebounds.  It was her third double double of the season and second in the Lady Wolves last three.

"I'm glad we were able to find a way to pull it out in the end," commented Coach Adams.  "I felt down the stretch we made some poor decisions but were able to get a couple of stops to close it out.  We have to continue to improve."

The Lady Wolves jumped out to a 15-8 lead but the Eagles were able to knot the game at 18 midway through the first half.  Cheyney used a 10-4 run the final five minutes of the first half to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room at the break.

Cheyney kept the pressure on to start the second half.  The Lady Wolves went on an 11-4 run over the first six minutes of the second half to take a commanding 13 point lead, their biggest of the night.  Clarion was able to eat into the deficit, going on a 6-0, cutting the Cheyney lead to four with 1:33 to play.  However, a traditional three-point play by Hines-Allen in the closing seconds secured the Cheyney victory.

Clarion's Delrika Jones-Carey netted career highs in both points with 22 and rebounds with 18 and had the most rebounds in a game for Clarion since Hannah Heeter grabbed 18 against California (Pa.) Feb. 27, 2013. It was the second straight double-double for the sophomore from Pittsburgh's Woodland Hills High School.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon.  Cheyney will host Pitt-Johnstown while Clarion will play at Millersville.  Both contests are scheduled to tip off at 1:00 pm.
