Johnson City, N.C. - Cheyney University women's basketball opens the season at the CIAA / PSAC Challenge hosted by Johnson C. Smith against the hosts with the tipoff scheduled for 7:00 pm Friday night.

The Wolves finished 2016-17 season with six victories, its most victories in conference since 2008.
Cheyney University Women's basketball notes.
- Tammy A. Bagby's first recruiting class. Five freshman and four transfers.
- New Assistant Coach Mariah Chandler.
- Cheyney graduates, Amber Genwright '17 and 2010 Cheyney Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Annette "Big Moe" Rogers '14, also working with women's basketball program in 2017-18.
- Three returning starters
- Sr. TaKayla Ellis set a new Cheyney record with 110 career three- point shots made.
- Defeated West Chester for the first time since 1991.
- Jr. Marlon Herring 8.5 rebounds per game in 2016-17 was fifth in the PSAC. 4.0 offensive rebounds per games was the best in PSAC games.
- R-Jr. Briana Hedgepeth spent 10 days during the summer touring and playing with Beyond Sports in Spain.
The Squad also features several newcomers to be highlighted throughout the season.
