The Battle of the First, the track edition took center stage at Cheyney’s O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium on Thursday.
The Cheyney sprinters swept the top three places in the 100 meter. Kemuel Wright posted a 10.99. Team mates Lonnell Wilson and Christian Beard were close behind at 11.08 and 11.30. The trio of Wright, Beard and Justin Watkins also swept the 200 m. Wright took the top spot in 22.32. Beard and Watkins finished second and third in 23.46 and 23.64 respectively. Javier Garcia took home the top spot in the javelin by more than two meters winning the event with a mark of 53.90 m. The Wolves also swept the triple jump competition with Darius Reeves, Jewel Jones and Adam Dolphin going one, two three. Reeves posted a mark of 13.24 m, Jones 13.07 m and Dolphin 12.15 m. Donte McCorey took home the top spot in the 800 m with a time of 2:05.69. Jones also won the long jump with an effort of 6.43 m. The 4 x 400 relay team of Watkins, Reeves, McCorey and Wright won the event in 3:44.06.
“We did a lot of good things out there,” commented Head Coach James Williams.
The Wolves topped the Lions 58-40 in team scoring.
