GALLOWAY, N.J. –
Jowan Lewis-Kearse set the all-time Cheyney University record in the triple jump and recorded the second best long jump in school history to lead the men's track and field squad at the Stockton Invitational SAturday afternoon to open the outdoor season.
Lewis-Kearse, who earned two all-conference honors during the indoor season, registered an NCAA provisional distance of 14.88m/48'10" to take the title and break the 42 year old mark of Lynwood Loper who recorded a jump of 14.63m/48'7½" in capturing the PSAC Championship in 1976.
Lewis-Kearse also took home the title in the long jump with a career-best distance of 7.00m/22'11¾" the second-best long jump in the PSAC during the outdoor season and the second-longest in Cheyney University history. Loper holds the all-time mark of 7.28m/23'10.5 set while winning the 1977 PSAC Championship crown.
Brandon Joyner took the runner-up spot in the high jump with a PSAC qualifying clearance of 1.92m/6'3.5.
Devin Miller placed fifth in the 100 in a time of 11.30,
Brandon McCray took ninth place in the shot with a career-long put of 13.10m/42"11.25" and
Tariq Furbush put the shot a career-best 11.03m/39'1.75"
Cheyney returns to action on Saturday, April 7 at the Bill Butler Classic hosted by West Chester University.
